How to Enable Microsoft Fabric?

Microsoft Fabric is a cloud-based platform that helps you build, deploy, and manage scalable and resilient applications. It is still in preview, but it is a powerful tool that can help you improve the performance and reliability of your applications.

In this article, we will show you how to enable Microsoft Fabric for your tenant or for a specific capacity. We will also discuss the factors you need to consider when making this decision.

How to Enable Microsoft Fabric?

Tenant is a logical grouping of users and resources in Microsoft Power Platform. It is the highest level of administrative control in Microsoft Power Platform. Each tenant has its own set of settings, permissions, and data.

Capacity is a logical grouping of resources in Microsoft Power Platform. It is used to isolate workloads and improve performance. Each capacity has its own set of compute, memory, and storage resources

In Microsoft Fabric, the tenant is the top-level entity. It is where you create and manage your Fabric items. The capacity is a sub-entity of the tenant. It is where you run your Fabric items.

You can choose to enable Microsoft Fabric for

  1. Your tenant

  2. For your specific capacity.

If you enable Microsoft Fabric for your tenant, all users in your tenant will be able to create and use Fabric items. This is the recommended setting if you want to make Microsoft Fabric available to all users in your organization.

If you enable Microsoft Fabric for a specific capacity, only users who have access to that capacity will be able to create and use Fabric items. This is a good option if you want to restrict access to Microsoft Fabric to a specific group of users.

Here are some factors to consider when deciding whether to enable Microsoft Fabric for your tenant or for a specific capacity:

  • The number of users who will be using Microsoft Fabric.

  • The type of workloads that will be running on Microsoft Fabric.

  • The security requirements for Microsoft Fabric.

If you are unsure which setting is right for your organization, you can consult with your Microsoft Power Platform administrator.

How to disable Microsoft Fabric?

It's important to note that disabling Microsoft Fabric for a specific capacity will only impact that capacity, even if Microsoft Fabric remains available in your organization.

Here are some additional things to keep in mind when enabling it:

  • It is still in preview, so it is not recommended to enable it for all users in your organization.

  • If you enable it for a specific capacity, you must also enable it for the users who will be using it.

  • You can disable it at any time.
