Windows 10 Settings gets a modern Disk Management tool

Updated: Mar 22, 2023

Windows 10 includes a modern Disk Management tool in the Settings app, which provides a more user-friendly and streamlined interface for managing your computer's hard drives and partitions.

Previously, the Disk Management tool was a part of the Computer Management utility, which required users to navigate through several menus to access the disk-related settings. However, the new Disk Management tool in the Settings app makes it easier to perform common disk management tasks, such as creating, deleting, and formatting partitions, changing drive letters, and extending or shrinking volumes.

Microsoft has also started testing redirecting Windows 10 users who opened the older System control panel to this new About page.

To access the Disk Management tool in Windows 10 Settings, follow these steps:

STEP 1: Open the Settings app by pressing the Windows key + I.

STEP 2: Click on the "System" option.

STEP 3: Click on the "Storage" option.

STEP 4: Under the "Storage" section, click on "Advanced storage settings"

STEP 5: Click on the drive or partition that you want to manage.

STEP 5: You will see a list of options for managing the selected drive or partition, such as "Change drive letter and paths", "Format", "Extend volume", and "Shrink volume".

The new Disk Management tool in Windows 10 Settings is designed to be more intuitive and user-friendly, making it easier for users to manage their computer's storage devices and partitions.
